Each Mentor in this group has strong interests in the structure, function and regulation of proteins involved in cardiac contraction. Levels of focus span from atomic modeling to transcriptional regulation to intact heart function. These investigators have extensive interactions - they meet informally on a daily basis and formally in weekly group meetings and journal clubs; they jointly mentor students and have multiple co-authored papers and grants. Recognizing that the proteins and processes involved in development and function of the heart are often at the center of dysfunction in settings of disease and injury, this group interacts with clinical members of the Sarver Heart Center and with members of the other focus groups.
